History of the Gold Country Classic

The GCC has been a well established boy's gymnastics competition in Northern California since 1988. It is the oldest continual boy's competition in Northern California. I originally started this competition at my gym, G-FORCE Gymnastics Academy in Rancho Cordova, California. G-FORCE was literally built on the left over remains from a gold mining technique called “Placer Mining”. I therefore named my gymnastics competition the Gold Country Classic. I have kept the name over years and found it appropriate for anywhere in Northern California since the Gold Rush built up and populated all areas of Northern California.

Due to the increasing popularity of this competition, and long waiting lists of gyms wishing to enter, in 2002 I started looking for a larger out-of-gym facility to host the GCC. From 2005-2009 I held the GCC at San Francisco's historic Fort Mason's "Herbst Pavilion" (Pier #2) in the Fisherman's Wharf area of San Francisco. I also added women's gymnastics to the GCC at this point in time to help cover the high cost of hosting this event in a Pier is San Francisco.

I have also added NCAA competitions to the GCC over the years. In 2007 the GCC was host to the All-Academy Championships (Army vs. Navy vs. Air Force). In 2009 the GCC was host to Berkeley and Stanford's Men's teams as well as the Canadian and Norwegian Men's Senior and Junior National Teams.

Due to the increasing cost of equipment rental and facility rental in San Francisco, and the poor economy in the mid - late 2000's, I moved the GCC to the Robert Livermore Community Center in Livermore California where it currently resides. The GCC is currently staffed by members of Classic Gymnastics from Tracy California as well as many other volunteers. The combination of a well experienced staff, an ideal location, and an excellent facility makes the GCC a memorable and unique first class gymnastics event for all those who participate and/or come to watch.
